About the QuickDose™ Children’s Dosage Calculator

QuickDose™ provides weight-based pediatric dosing guidance for acetaminophen (Tylenol®) and ibuprofen (Motrin®/Advil®). Learn more about safe children’s medication dosing below.

How Does QuickDose™ Work?

QuickDose™ uses your child’s age, current weight, medicine and formulation to provide pediatric dosing guidance. Because children of the same age can vary considerably in size, current weight is an important part of choosing the appropriate dose.

Why Is Children’s Medicine Dosed by Weight?

Many pediatric medicines are dosed according to a child’s current weight rather than age alone. Two children who are the same age can weigh very different amounts, so weight-based dosing can provide more precise guidance.

Tylenol® and Acetaminophen Dosing

Tylenol® contains acetaminophen and is commonly used for fever and discomfort in infants and children. Always verify the concentration printed on the package before measuring a dose.

Ibuprofen, Motrin® and Advil® Dosing

Ibuprofen is used for fever, pain and inflammation. Infant drops and children’s liquid can have different concentrations, so always check the product label carefully.

Ibuprofen is generally not used in babies younger than 6 months unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.

Why Does Medication Concentration Matter?

Liquid medicines can come in different concentrations. The number of milliliters needed for a dose depends on both the medication and the concentration of the product you are using.

Always check the active ingredient and concentration on the Drug Facts label before measuring a dose.

Important Medication Safety

Use your child’s current weight whenever possible. Confirm the active ingredient, formulation and concentration every time, and measure liquid medicine with the supplied dosing syringe or cup rather than a kitchen spoon.

Do not give two medicines that contain the same active ingredient. If you are unsure which medicine or dose is appropriate, contact your child’s pediatrician or pharmacist.

Important: A baby younger than 3 months with a rectal temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher needs prompt medical evaluation. QuickDose™ provides general educational dosing guidance and does not replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment from your child’s healthcare professional.
