Development Happens in Many Different Ways
Developmental milestones describe skills babies gradually gain as they grow. Pediatricians look at several areas together rather than judging development by one skill alone.
Smiling, eye contact, comfort with familiar caregivers, and early interaction.
Responding to voices, cooing, babbling, gestures, and eventually words.
Watching, exploring, recognizing patterns, and solving simple problems.
Head control, reaching, rolling, sitting, crawling, and hand coordination.
A baby may move quickly in one area and more gradually in another. What matters most is the overall pattern of progress across time.
